Belgian Browning Choke Designations

Dear Technoid,

My father in law just gave me a Browning Auto-5 Sweet sixteen 16 GA with two
barrels. How can I tell the choke of the barrels from the marks?

Dear Roger,

In the 1960s the Belgian Browning choke designations were:

Full Choke *
Improved Modified *-
Modified **
Improved Cylinder **-
Skeet **$
Cylinder ***

By the way, this information is from the excellent Belgian Browning
reference book “The Browning Superposed” by Ned Schwing, Krause
Publications, (1996). This is THE reference source for the
Superposed and gives marvelous background information on the Fabrique
National factory and on Browning in the USA.

Best regards,
