Do you know anyone that can do case coloring to my Perazzi Mx8 sporting? It is a drab looking gun that I would like to liven up.
Doug Turnbull, Bloomsfield, NY, tel:716-657-6338, does some of the best bone charcoal color case hardening around. It can be really gorgeous. Just remember that case hardening, whether chemical or bone, is not very durable. It will wear through at the edges quite quickly if the receiver is handled much. Lacquering can help postpone the inevitable.
My old Perazzi Comp 1’s had nice case hardening (probably chemical), but I shot them a lot and after a few years it wore through on the edges where I handled it. I have an old Webley & Scott made in 1926 that originally had case hardening (probably bone) and now has coloring left only here and there. Like youth, case colors are beautiful, but fleeting.
